Blackbuck

Blackbuck are elegant antelope known for their remarkable speed, agility, and striking appearance. Adult males develop dark coats and long spiral horns as they mature, while females remain a lighter tan colour throughout their lives. Their graceful movements and alert nature make them fascinating animals to watch across the habitat.

In the wild, blackbuck inhabit open grasslands and plains where their speed is their greatest defence against predators. Visitors may occasionally spot them displaying energetic bounding leaps, known as pronking, as they move across their enclosure.

Once heavily affected by hunting and habitat loss, blackbuck populations are now protected in many areas through conservation initiatives. These efforts help to ensure the continued survival of one of Asia’s most distinctive antelope species.
