Rainbow lorikeets are small but incredibly lively parrots, known for their bright plumage and loud, energetic calls that make them hard to miss. In the wild, they play an important ecological role as pollinators, helping to transfer pollen between flowering trees as they feed.
Their unique brush-tipped tongue acts like a natural tool, allowing them to sweep up nectar and pollen with ease. As they grow, their beaks also change from dark tones in juveniles to bright orange-red in adults, adding to their striking appearance.
In their native eastern Australia, rainbow lorikeets are found in forests and woodlands where they move in fast, social flocks. Feeding on nectar, pollen, and fruit, they are an essential part of their ecosystem and a favourite among visitors for their colour and character.
