Sumatran Tigers

Sumatran tigers are the smallest surviving tiger subspecies and are renowned for their striking striped coats, powerful build, and stealthy hunting abilities. Native to the forests of Sumatra, their markings help them blend perfectly into dense vegetation, making them highly skilled predators in the wild.

As critically endangered animals, Sumatran tigers face significant threats from habitat loss and poaching, with only a small population remaining in the wild. Conservation programmes around the world are vital in helping to protect the future of this remarkable species.

In 2025, the Safari Park celebrated the birth of three Sumatran tiger cubs to mother Dourga — an important milestone for the species and a valuable contribution to international conservation efforts. Visitors may be lucky enough to spot the growing cubs exploring their surroundings and developing the behaviours that make tigers such extraordinary animals.
